Chelsey

The older one.

Chelsey is an over thinker. A tendency which can lead to stress. Starting this podcast was a way to help her deal with some of that stress.

“Cuz it’s either this or therapy.”

She went to Memorial, McMinnville Middle School (when there was only one), McMinnville High School her freshman year, and then walked out the door on the second day of her sophomore year. She transferred to Perrydale High School, where she graduated from and also met her high school sweetheart, Brent. She got her degree in Political Science from Linfield College and credits her Poly Sci professors with making her question what we are told and not being afraid to speak up. She’s currently working harder at the latter.

Her two kids, Nora and Oliver, are the joys of her life, and she hopes that some of her entrepreneurial spirit gets passed down to them.

Chelsey started Type A Press (a letterpress print shop) in 2010, and The Bindery Event Space in 2018. Both operate out of the downtown buildings that she ran around in when the News-Register printed there. Ask her what she does and she will tell you she’s a printer. She’s very fond of her spot on 4th Street, and loves working in downtown McMinnville.

Some of Chelsey’s favorite memories of growing up in McMinnville …

  • Smelling the cookies baking at Archway Bakery while at recess in middle school.

  • Walking the streets with friends at Turkey Rama every summer.

  • Riding with Santa on the fire truck during the Santa Parade.

Ossie

The younger one.

Ossie is not going to let your opinions bother him. He’s starting this podcast because he has a good radio voice.

Ossie went to Memorial, Duniway Middle School, McMinnville High School and started his college career at Santa Clara. He took a few months off to travel with his good friend Ryan, before starting back at the University of Oregon. He worked towards a degree in Political Science, which is also what our dad has. We’re not sure how we all ended up studying politics.

After school he took over publishing of The Vancouver Voice where he lived for a few years. That is where he met his wife, Lacy (also a Linfield grad) and they now are raising three kiddos, Kingsley, Sloane and Axel.

Ossie is the co-publisher of the News-Register with our dad, Jeb. He spends his day managing the teams at the paper and sister company Oregon Lithoprint. He is a natural journalist and is the fourth newspaperman in our family.

He also started the Walnut City Music Festival, and music is his passion. He also had a notable stint at the local bars doing trivia nights.

Some of Ossie’s favorite memories of growing up in McMinville …

  • Playing capture the flag in his neighborhood with friends.

  • Peaking at age 13 with three state championships … golf, soccer and Pentagrams.

  • Going to the Blue Moon for breakfast.
